Toronto-based AutoShare Inc. will begin a two-year pilot program in Mississauga, a city in the province of Ontario, Canada, allowing registered members to rent vehicles hourly or daily, according to Mississauga.com.
Starting April 2, anyone 21 years old or over can book one of two vehicles in the downtown area and return it to the same parking spot once they are finished. The cost depends on the time and distance of the trip.
The city budgeted $20,000 for the pilot program and expects to reduce personal vehicle use to create a “more livable, compact, accessible and sustainable” downtown.
One of the vehicles will be available solely for municipal employee use from Monday to Friday between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m, but the other will be for any citizens at all times.
