Today the British Vehicle Rental and Leasing Association (BVRLA) is holding a rental committee meeting to respond to the new law banning age discrimination in regards to goods and services.

The regulation prevents car rental companies from using age as a factor in deciding whether or a not a customer is eligible to rent a car. After making comprises to the original law, the Home Office said that a company can  charge a fee to renters, if it can prove that the renter’s age statistically makes them more likely to be involved in an accident.

According to a BVRLA newsletter, the committee will be considering a new “Code of Practice” to help companies and BVRLA members manage risks associated with the new regulation. “It would set out the permissible justifications for declining to rent a vehicle,” the newsletter states.
