Zipcar Considers Expanding to Australia

Avis Budget Group, the owner of Zipcar, is considering whether it will bring the American carsharing platform to Australia, according to Financial Review.
Within the next 18 months, Avis will decide if Australia will follow its U.S. Zipcar model of having shared cars on university campuses or its London business model of having cars around the city.
The company is also considering the introduction of EVs, despite not operating them in the U.S.
Avis sees opportunities in partnering with vehicle makers in Australia to provide more EVs and promote competitive carsharing.
Zipcar, founded in Boston in 2000, was acquired by Avis Budget Group in 2013. It now operates in more than 500 cities and towns throughout the U.S., Canada, Europe, and Central America.
