Zipcar Facebook Contest Increased Fans By 9,200
Zipcar’s ‘The Ultimate Ziptrip’ contest on the social media site received 5,000 responses in the initial round.
Zipcar concluded its first "The Ultimate Ziptrip" social media contest on June 27 by announcing Cambridge, Mass.-based Jason and Elizabeth Hart the winners of an all-expenses paid trip to San Francisco.
The contest asked Zipcar’s Facebook fans to tell them in 750 characters or less what they would do on an all-expenses paid trip to one of the 16 North American cities where Zipcar operates.
After receiving 5,000 responses, Zipcar narrowed it down to 50 semi-finalists and asked each finalist to create a video to supplement their response. Three videos were chosen to compete in the final round of the contest and the video with the most ‘likes’ on Zipcar’s Facebook page would be deemed the winner.
Zipcar gained an additional 9,200 Facebook fans and continued to expand its social media network during the contest. “The Ultimate Ziptrip” Facebook tab was viewed more than 53,000 times and the contest was shared by more than 2,500 people, according to the company.
“We know that our members are tech-savvy, heavily involved in social media and love to travel, and we thought this contest would be a great way to engage with them,” said Zipcar Chief Marketing Officer Rob Weisberg.
