Following the 7.8 magnitude earthquakes hitting Turkey and Syria this week, Green Motion’s United Kingdom team responded to calls for help from a Turkish community leader. Murat Sukru asked for help putting together emergency supplies, including medical and first aid equipment, tents and clothing, and transporting them to U.K. airports to be air lifted to Turkey.

The response was led by Green Motion Leicester, and was coordinated by Viral Pala and his team.

"Seeing the terrible conditions faced by the Turkish people, I am really happy that we were able to play a small part in providing help,” Hash Ahmed, manager of Green Motion's Leicester franchise said. “The moment we received the request, we put vans on hold and mobilized as many employees as we could. [The] operation was just the start, with us agreeing to supply support throughout the coming days and weeks."

Ahmed said that they have made a fleet of vans available, which is backed by employee volunteers that are all supporting the relief effort. These team members are collating anything that would prove useful for those who have suddenly become homeless, which includes tents/camping equipment, weatherproof and thermal clothing, first aid and emergency equipment etc.

Richard Lowden, founder & CEO of Green Motion said: "Watching the disaster unfold across Turkey and Syria on the international news has been truly heartbreaking, and we are happy that Green Motion was able to rise to the challenge to provide whatever physical help we possibly can do. The true scale of the disaster still remains unknown, and as such it is critical that we continue to do everything possible to provide physical and monetary assistance. As well as providing physical help, Green Motion has also donated to the British Red Cross disaster appeal and would urge all of our industry colleagues to do the same. I would like to give special thanks to the team at Green Motion Leicester for providing vehicles, manpower, and aid to this appeal."
