Established in New Zealand in 2007, Transfercar — an online relocation service that calls itself "the free rental company" — has now launched in the United States.
Starting out on the West Coast with over 100 cars listed, Transfercar offers free one-way rental cars to online independent travelers. It receives its supply of rental cars (from small cars to RVs) from already established rental car companies who need to reposition their fleet, according to Transfercar.
Transfercar’s initial launch will be in San Francisco, Los Angeles, San Jose, San Diego and Las Vegas, with plans to expand to other cities, says the company.
In Australia and New Zealand, Transfercar currently has 120 rental car companies as customers.
"There is a great opportunity for consumers to benefit from underutilized rental cars," said Brian Karlson, CEO of Transfercar.
