Singapore is planning to launch an electric car-sharing trial program in the city as early as 2016, according to a report by the Bangkok Post.

Singapore's Land Transport Authority and the Economic Development Board invited electric car manufacturers to submit proposals for a sustainable business model, according to the report.

Proposals need to be submitted by Feb. 27, 2015. Then the Singapore government plans to award the contract to the chosen group by late 2015, according to the report.

This trial program could introduce up to 1,000 electric vehicles over a 10-year period, which would likely include electric car makers, car-sharing operators and charging infrastructure service providers, says the report.
