A Texas doctor filed a lawsuit against Avis Rent a Car and Avis Budget Car Rental, accusing the groups of wrongfully filing grand theft auto charges against him, the SE Texas Record reports.

According to the man, he had a rental agreement with Avis since 2012 which allowed him to renew his rental via telephone.

The complaint states that despite the agreement, Avis did not inform the man of a return deadline and he was arrested in 2014 for stealing a rental vehicle from the Avis location at the Dallas/Fort Worth Airport. The man was arrested two more times for similar offenses; all charges were dropped the following year.

The doctor said the ordeal negatively affected him and his business and he is seeking unspecified monetary damages at a jury trial.
