A recent study by Consumer Reports found that one in six vehicles on the Uber and Lyft platforms have an open recall for an unaddressed safety issue. Consumer Reports based its findings on data collected from 94,000 ride-hailing vehicles registered in the New York City and Seattle areas.
"We found vehicles with glaring issues that pose serious risks, such as deadly Takata airbags that could hurt or kill the driver or front-seat passengers," Consumer Reports wrote on its website. Another example of unfixed defects is the 2011 Sonata, which currently has a recall for engine failure that could result in the vehicle stalling, "increasing the risk of a crash.”
