Ford is hoping to raise the bar in fuel efficiency among non-hybrid compact cars with its updated 2015 Focus by adding a new 1.0L three-cylinder EcoBoost engine.

The refreshed Focus, which will be shown at the New York International Auto Show starting April 18, follows the introduction of the Focus five-door hatchback in March. The Focus Electric has also been updated.

The new EcoBoost engine gets paired with a new six-speed manual transmission for the U.S. version. The 2015 Focus also gets the optional SE Sport Package and the standard MyKey technology that enhances driver safety.

Commercial fleet registered 10,873 Focus sedans in 2012, while government fleets registered 4,725. Rental fleets added 48,069.

The 2015 Focus also gets a bolder exterior design and other features for a leading global vehicle that's gaining increasing popularity in China. In 2013, Ford sold 403,219 Focus sedans in China, a 50 percent increase from 2012 sales in that country. Worldwide, Ford saw 1.09 million Focus registrations, an 8.1 percent increase, according to Ford, citing Polk data.
