Avis Recognized for Supporting Travelers with Disabilities
Awarded by New York Mayor Bloomberg, Avis Access program provides transfer boards, spinner knobs, hand-controls and panoramic mirrors free of charge.
Avis Rent A Car System LLC announced it has received the Title III Public Accommodations Award from the Mayor's Office of New York City. The award is part of New York City Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg's second annual Mayoral Advocacy Awards, at which companies are recognized for doing exceptional work in supporting the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Ron Nelson, chairman and CEO of Avis Budget Group Inc., parent company of Avis, accepted the award from Mayor Bloomberg at a ceremony at Gracie Mansion.
Avis received the award for introducing its "Avis Access" program, which provides accessible rental car services for drivers and passengers with disabilities. Avis was also recognized for its ongoing sponsorship of the Achilles Track Club, a national organization dedicated to helping train and support runners with disabilities.
Avis Access was introduced in 2004, aimed at making travel more accessible for everyone. All Avis Access products, except mobility scooters, are available free of charge with all Avis car rentals. For more information, visit www.avis.com/access.
