NEW YORK -- Avis generated nearly $624.3 million in revenue in the second quarter, a 5% drop compared to the same period in 2002, according to Cendant Corp.'s newly released quarterly report.
Avis sold 13.9 million rental days during the quarter, compared to 15.2 million in the second quarter of 2002, representing an 8% decline.
However, Avis' daily dollar average (time and mileage) rose 3%, from $40.35 in last year's second quarter to $41.53 this year. The quarter's average length of rental was 3.52 days, compared to 3.63 days in the same period last year.
Cendant Car Rental Group's other brand, Budget Rent A Car, recorded car rental revenue of $319.1 million for the quarter. Budget's truck rental revenue for the quarter totaled nearly $139.2 million. The average length of rental was 4.33 days, up 3% compared to 2002.
Budget's daily dollar average (time and mileage) for the quarter was $32.98, down 8% compared to the second quarter last year. During the period, Budget sold 8.3 million car rental days, up 6% compared to last year.
