BCD, Amex Issue 2007 Business Travel Forecasts
Amex tracked 4 percent increase in car rental costs in 2006, BCD estimates costs to increase by 5 to 7 percent in 2007.
Citing strong demand in all business travel markets, both BCD Travel Consulting and American Express Business Travel have released reports detailing a rise in corporate travel client spending in 2006, according to Business Travel News.
American Express Business Travel clients saw car rental costs for corporate customers rise 4 percent to $67.26, compared with second quarter of 2005. BCD estimates car rental costs will rise 5 percent to 7 percent. Even with such rates on the rise, uncontrollable taxes and the high cost of fuel will be passed to customers, BCD said.
BCD says additional fees, such as no-show charges of $50, are beginning to become a standard part of the car rental industry. The firm predicts that the trend towards more add-on charges, such as a loss damage waiver in the rental car rate, will prompt travel buyers to increasingly review these charges for inclusion in the negotiated daily rental rate.
