Cambridge Consultants launched the DropTag DRIVE service in order to provide an accurate picture of how cars are driven during the rental period. The company says it provides a real-time account of any damage that occurred to a vehicle by attaching a tag to the windshield that continually monitors all vehicle accelerations and impacts.

Cambridge Consultants also says the tag senses what is happening to the vehicle and relays the information to the driver and the car rental company via Bluetooth Smart technology and a smartphone app.

In the case of an accident, DropTag DRIVE can confirm if the vehicle was stationary when it was hit and detect very low-speed car park collisions, according to the company. If no incidents are detected during the rental period, the app will give the driver the all-clear as they arrive in the drop-off area.

The accurate reading will also help companies with vehicle maintenance and turnaround times.
