Capital CarShare, a nonprofit carsharing company, has opened a new parking location for its service in downtown Albany. This new location was created through a resolution of the Albany County legislature that passed in November 2014, says the company.
“Capital CarShare is going to help increase access to transportation for those who cannot afford a car as well as help with some of our environmental initiatives,” said Christopher Higgins, an Albany County legislator who advocated for the parking space. “Having a car in the Center Square area is going to be very beneficial to the community and city as a whole.”
Launched in August 2014, Capital Carshare currently has six carshare vehicles and 93 members.
“Capital CarShare thanks Albany County for supporting our mission and our members who live downtown,” said Kateri Turner, operations manager for Capital CarShare. “Opening this new location is the first step of our 2015 plans to expand our fleet and services.”
