car2go Canada Ltd., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Daimler North America Corp., announced July 18 that it is celebrating its first anniversary in Vancouver by recognizing the company’s growth and introducing a new contest for members.

car2go launched in Vancouver in 2011 with 225 cars. On average, the initial 2,000 members took 1,500 trips per week. Today, there are 320 car2go smart fortwo vehicles, and 15,000 members take an average of 12,000 trips per week.

While parking is free for car2go members in the “home area” of Vancouver, the number of car2go designated parking spaces has increased by 25% in the past year.

To celebrate the success of car2go in Vancouver, the company launched “The Best car2go Contest Yet.” Each car2go member who opts-in to the competition by clicking on the contest entry link in the company newsletter will be automatically entered into the weekly contest draw for restaurant gift cards and the grand prize draw for a trip for two to Europe.

car2go also launched its car sharing service in Calgary of the Alberta province in Canada on July 21. car2go operates 150 smart fortwo vehicles throughout the city for members who sign up to use the car sharing service.

As part of the new service in Calgary, car2go is offering free registration, free test drives and free drive minutes for a limited time.
