car2go North America LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Daimler North America Corp., officially launched its car-sharing services as previously announced in Portland, Ore. on March 31, and in Washington, D.C. on March 24.

car2go has begun deploying 250 smart fortwo cars in the Portland area, distributing them throughout the 32-square mile car2go Home Area. Washington, D.C. will receive a total of 200 vehicles.

Each person who registers to become a car2go member will receive a car2go membership card that will allow them to gain access to and drive any of the available car2go vehicles and without having to commit to a mandatory return time or location.

Member registration for Portland is currently available online at Portland.car2go.com, and registration for Washington, D.C. is at WashingtonDC.car2go.com.
