Chicago's Committee on Economic, Capital, and Technology Development is considering allowing car2go to test its carsharing service in the city, reports the Chicago Sun-Times.
The test is a 500-vehicle pilot program taking place in select parts of Chicago. Through a mobile app, car2go customers would be able to locate and access a vehicle, and pay by the minute, hour, or day. Insurance and gas would be built into the cost.
The pilot program has faced criticism from some aldermen who voiced concerns that car2go vehicles would occupy already limited parking spaces and worsen traffic congestion from ridesharing drivers.
The committee has instructed car2go to pay parking meter leasees for the spaces the company plans to use.
