Cintas Corp. Recognizes Avis Budget for Environmental Efforts
Avis Budget Car Rental was among the winners of the inaugural ‘Green Garment Award,’ which recognizes companies for their recycled apparel purchases.
Cincinnati-based Cintas Corp. announced the winners of its first Green Garment Award celebrating companies committed to sustainability on April 25.
The award recognizes companies for their efforts that helped divert nearly 15 million 16.9-ounce plastic bottles from entering the landfill in 2011.
Avis Budget Car Rental, Revel Entertainment Group, Health Management Associates and Montefiore Medical Center purchased the largest quantities of recycled polyester apparel that diverts plastic bottles from landfills.
The apparel is made through a plastic-to-fiber process which reduces landfill waste, saves energy and reduces CO2 emissions. The eco-friendly apparel includes slacks, pants, jackets, shirts and blazers.
"Amid global warming and considerable 'plastic soup' buildup in the oceans, it is imperative that companies embrace initiatives that protect the environment," said Vice President of Global Hospitality and Gaming Todd McKeown. "The Green Garment Award gives us the opportunity to generate awareness of these issues and shine the spotlight on companies that are proactively making a difference in reducing the consumption of raw materials."
