In the city of Xiamen in the southeastern region of the People's Republic of China, car rental companies are forming a network to promote development of the industry and so that consumers can more easily identify legally operating organizations, according to Whatsonxiamen.com.

The Xiamen Car Rental Association, though still considered "semi-official," was set up on Nov. 9. According to the article, the city has twice the number of operating taxis at about 10,000 vehicles.

The association is a partnership between the city government and car rental companies.
