A canary yellow Corvette got stuck in the surf and ended up submerged knee-deep in salt water in Pacific Beach, Calif., after a driver and two passengers went joyriding last Thursday night.

A 39-year-old man and his 36-year-old wife rented the Corvette from Hertz, police told NBC San Diego.

The couple met an unidentified man (whose last name they didn't know) while drinking at London's West End in Pacific Beach. The man told them he had never driven a Corvette and they decided to go for a spin.

The couple told police the man was driving, while they sat in the passenger seat. The driver started doing doughnuts and somehow the vehicle ended up in the surf.

The couple was detained at a detox center and later released. The man was never found.

A tow truck was called in after 9 p.m. to pull the car off the shore.

Several people witnessed the incident and posted videos to YouTube. Click here to see one of the videos of the stranded Corvette.
