CouponCabin Releases Car Sharing Survey
More than 2,000 U.S. adults were surveyed on their opinion of short-term car sharing and rental services including reasons, benefits and overall attitude on the services.
A study by CouponCabin and Harris Interactive, released March 6, found that short-term car sharing and rental services are considered reliable driving options for flexibility, convenience and affordability in driving.
When asked what reasons they would consider using a short-term car sharing/rental service, U.S. adults gave the following reasons:
Save gas money | 32% |
Inexpensive | 31% |
Convenient | 29% |
Family/guest visits | 24% |
Avoid public transportation | 24% |
Avoid car ownership | 19% |
Transport purchases | 17% |
Other | 25% |
Other key findings in the study were 15% of U.S. adults have used a car sharing service in the past or plan to in the future and 35% of those who do not have access to a short-term rental service wish there was one located in their city.
Also, 74% of U.S. adults agree that short-term car sharing/rental services are less expensive than taking taxis, and 70% agree they are a practical way to get around.
Lastly, 69% said they agree that the services can reduce the overall number of cars on the road, leading to less traffic congestion and overall pollution.
“Regardless of their car situation, many people are realizing the wide variety of benefits to short-term car sharing/rental services,” said Jackie Warrick, senior savings adviser at CouponCabin.com. “Not only do these services offer an inexpensive option for anyone to get around, they can make life easier and have a positive environmental effect.”
The study was conducted from Feb. 27 to March 1 with 2,111 adults ages 18 and older.
