DriveNow Car Sharing Service Receives Sustainability Prize
Sixt and BMW’s DriveNow Service was honored with the ÖkoGlobe 2012 sustainability prize.
Sixt AG and the BMW Group received this year’s ÖkoGlobe sustainability prize in the “mobility models” category for its car sharing service DriveNow, Sixt announced on Oct. 17.
The award recognizes environmentally friendly products and innovations in the automotive industry. This year judges had to choose from 110 nominations in ten different categories.
DriveNow was noted for its sustainability-based concept of networking a range of different mobility solutions.
DriveNow was launched in June 2011 and is used by more than 55,000 members in Munich, Berlin, Düsseldorf and San Francisco. The San Francisco program is the newest addition to DriveNow, which is operated by BMW with technical support provided by Sixt, while the other three cities are considered a joint program between the two companies.
The car sharing service plans to reach a million members by 2020 with international expansion, Sixt said.
