MANCHESTER, N.H. -- Enterprise Rent-A-Car has acquired Merchants Automotive Group's rental division, which includes a 1,500-vehicle fleet and 17 rental locations.
"Much thought has gone into this decision," said Merchants President Stephen Singer. "The sale of the rental division will allow us to focus our financial and human resources on promising growth opportunities in our corporate fleet leasing, sales and service operations."
Singer added he is confident that Enterprise will "be hiring a number of our rental division employees."
Both Merchants and Enterprise have a "similar company philosophy that comes from being rooted in a local business," said Ray Moss, regional vice president for Enterprise. "This makes for a great fit."
The sale closed on July 9.
