Estonian Public Broadcasting reported that an electric car rental program was launched by the government this week in the cities of Tallinn and Tartu. Next fall, the program expects to offer 24 Nissan Leaf and Mitsubishi i-MiEV vehicles for rental by the hour, according to the report.

When it comes to city commuting, the vehicle batteries will last approximately four hours in the summer and three hours in the winter. And batteries will last for 50 minutes for highway travel, says the Estonian Public Broadcasting report.

According to the report, the rental price is 6 euros for the first hour and 3 euros for each hour afterward. And the electric rental car will need to be returned to the city where it was first picked up.

Mirja Adler, the program manager, told Estonia Public Broadcasting that she hopes the rental program will help promote electric cars in Estonia.
