Construction on the latest expansion at Okaloosa Regional Airport in Florida is expected to begin in October, the Northwest Florida Daily News reports.
Okaloosa County commissioners have awarded a $14.7 million contract to Lord and Son Construction to build a new detached facility that will house the airport’s auto rental businesses. The new building, to be located on 22 acres to the east of the airport, will include five administrative offices, five service bays with lifts and automated car washes and fueling stations. According to the Daily News, the expansion project is funded through grants from the Federal Aviation Administration and a customer facility charge, a $3.20 fee that is added to every car rented at the airport.
