Ford Starts Ford2Go Car Sharing Service in Germany
The Ford2Go service allows customers to rent vehicles from participating dealerships throughout Germany.
Ford Motor Co. launched the first automotive manufacturer-backed car sharing program in Europe to incorporate dealerships on March 4.
Ford2Go was formed following a partnership of Ford of Germany, the German Ford dealers association FHD GmbH, and DB Rent GmbH. Operations will begin in the second quarter of 2013.
The 50 participating Ford dealers across Germany will offer cars and service to customers in their town, allowing easy access to shared cars and offering the chance for customers to drive Ford vehicles. An estimated 500 cars will be available for customers to rent by the end of this year.
DB Rent developed an online booking system and iOS and Android smartphone apps for users to book vehicles.
Ford Motor Company Executive Chairman Bill Ford highlighted car sharing as an important element of the future of mobility. The company’s Blueprint for Mobility also associates traffic congestion and environmental concerns with the development of a network of mobility solutions with shared services.
A Ford Motor Co.-sponsored poll revealed that more than half of Europeans would consider car sharing as a viable option.
