Using NavLynx Canada’s telematics technology, TripGuard™, Thrifty Car Rental of Waterloo, Toronto, Ontario was recently able to recover a stolen vehicle.
After being notified by Thrifty of the missing vehicle, NavLynx first proceeded to locate the vehicle. Then, monitoring center personnel contacted the driver and requested the return of the vehicle. When that step failed, NavLynx contacted the Ontario Provincial Police, who apprehended the criminals.
The car was recovered in less than one hour after the original report from Thrifty Car Rental to NavLynx, and without incident.
The arrest is believed to be the first in Canada in which a GPS tracking device was used.
