Industry Veteran Sallie Creel Ends Rental Operations

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- After 33 years in the car rental business, rental operator Sallie Creel has decided to stop renting cars and shift her company's focus to its airport parking and used-car sales operations. As a result, Alabama Car Rental is changing its name to Alabama Car Rental Inc., Airport Parking and Storage.
Creel operates the business with her son, Robert Montgomery. The company runs an off-terminal airport valet parking service and also offers car detailing, car washes and oil changes for traveling customers.
"We wanted to streamline our operation and consolidate our business to one location," Montgomery said. "We do, however, still sell used cars."
Montgomery has more than 25 years of experience in fleet sales.
"One of the best things about consolidating our offices is that we were able to keep the best-of-the-best team members," Creel said. Employees Bill Burns and Eugene Perry, who have been with the company more than 25 years, will remain on staff.
Creel started her business in 1972, after working in sales for both Budget and Thrifty.
From 1995 to 2002, Alabama Car Rental was part of the Thrifty franchise system.
