SANTA ANA, Calif. -- The Orange County Board of Supervisors refused to charge a $10 per rental-car contract fee to help pay for the $512 million expansion and refurbishment of John Wayne Airport. Instead, it approved a plan that would charge each departing air passenger a $4.50 fee, according to a report in the Orange County Register.
The rental fee was reportedly rejected because the board of supervisors felt it would deter tourists and “leave a bad taste” if they charged $10 to rent a car at the county-owned airport.
