The $90 million consolidated car rental facility at Kansas City International Airport opened at the end of April, after nearly 10 years of planning.

The 72-acre development will house 10 car rental companies and a total of 8,000 automobiles. The main objective of the project is to reduce congestion from the gate to the car rental terminal. Currently, 95 buses circle each terminal per hour, and with the opening of the facility, that number is planned to drop to 30 buses per hour.

Each rental company will have its own separate maintenance building for servicing their vehicle fleet. These buildings will include office facilities, two to four maintenance bays for inspections and minor maintenance work, a car wash bay, restrooms and storage areas.

Each company will also have large parking areas adjacent to their maintenance facility to store rental cars.
