Several thousand vehicles — from other states — have been moved to south Louisiana to accommodate the demand for rental transportation after thousands of cars, trucks, and SUVs were lost in the flooding last month, according to a report by the Greater Baton Rouge Business Report.

Enterprise and Hertz have deployed more than 9,000 vehicles from other states, according to the report. Hertz had 3,000 additional rentals last month in Louisiana’s flood affected areas and filled 75% of vehicle reservations by the end of August.

“We definitely have been working to ensure that we have vehicles here in the state,” Bill Masterson, a Hertz spokesman, told the Business Report.

Hertz is still moving vehicles into Louisiana from cities as far as Savannah, Ga., and Jacksonville, Fla., Masterson told the Business Report.

The National Insurance Crime Bureau estimated that as many as 100,000 insured cars and trucks were damaged by the flooding, according to the report.
