Malaysia to Launch Electric Car-Sharing Program
Malaysia will launch its first electric car-sharing program in the Klang Valley in August.
Malaysia will launch its first electric car-sharing program in the Klang Valley later this year, according to a report by the Malaysian Reserve. The Klang Valley location is planned to open in August followed by a location in Langkawi in November.
This year, the car-sharing program will provide 60 electric vehicles and 60 public charging stations. “From the initial 60 EV cars, the number is expected to grow to 3,500 EV cars nationwide by 2020,” Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed, international trade and industry minister, told the Malaysian Reserve.
CMC Consortium Sdn. Bhd. will provide the car sharing and fleet management services and install the public charging infrastructure, according to the report.
Renault ZOE and Nissan Leaf electric vehicles will be used in the program, says the report. Hourly rental rates haven’t been announced yet.
