In attempts to bring a park-and-ride lot and express bus service for residents commuting to work in the Winston-Salem, NC area, the Stokes County Board of Commissions recently approved a 5 percent tax on car rentals, according to news reports.
Four neighboring counties are also paying car rental taxes in order to receive transportation services from the Piedmont Authority for Regional Transportation (PART).
The county will begin building a park-and-ride lot by early January if the PART deal goes through.
