Set to open in January, San Diego International Airport's new rental car facility now features kinetic sculptural forms, according to a report by NBC 7 San Diego.
Measuring 54 feet tall, the two sculptural forms — called “MetroGnome” — were created by Los Angeles artist Christian Moeller. This art display will be one of three public art installations chosen for the new rental facility, according to the report.
The airport’s new $316-million rental car facility will house most of the rental car companies serving the airport, including national brands and local and independent rental car companies.
Currently, most rental car companies serving the airport are based in a number of buildings on North Harbor Drive. The new facility is designed to reduce the number of shuttle buses circulating the airport and improve traffic, says the report.
