PHILADELPHIA -– Vantis recently informed its car rental clients that Orbitz will stop carrying the Vantis chain codes beginning May 31. As a result, four Vantis GDS chain codes and their associated rental brands -- RentRite, New Frontier, VIP Cars and Independent Auto Rental -- will no longer be displayed on Orbitz to generate rental bookings for Vantis clients.
When contacted by Auto Rental News, Orbitz declined to discuss the reasons for dropping the Vantis chain codes.
Last year, VIP International changed its name to Vantis. Last July, the renamed company launched a stand-alone business unit, CARS, focused on independent car rental operators serving the airport market. Through its chain codes, Vantis gave those operators a GDS presence to generate airport market bookings. The operators co-branded with one of the Vantis brands.
Orbitz is owned by Cendant Corp., which also owns Avis and Budget.
