Starting Oct. 1, Oregon’s Redmond Airport will add a $3 daily charge to every car rented at the airport, according to a report by the Bend Bulletin.

City councilors voted to approve a new fee that will add a $3 charge to every car rented at the airport. This fee would be applied to every day the car is rented, up to seven days, according to the report.

The rental charge is part of a new five-year contract between Rend Airport and its four on-airport rental companies (Hertz, Enterprise Rent-A-Car, Budget Rent A Car, and Avis Car Rental). The funds will be put toward the construction of a new airport car rental facility in late 2017 or 2018, Zach Bass, the airport manager, told the Bend Bulletin.

“The airport is growing exponentially, and so is the need for car rental and need for space,” Bass told the Bend Bulletin.

The new facility will give the on-airport rental companies a place to wash, refuel, and maintain their cars, as well as more space for parking, according to the report.
