Rent-A-Wreck Wins Jury Trial
Thomas L. Gruber and San Diego Car Rentals ordered to make restitution of $750,000 to Rent-A-Wreck of America after deceptive failed merger agreement.
A jury in the Circuit Court of Montgomery County, Md., recently found Thomas L. Gruber and his corporation, San Diego Car Rentals (SDCR), liable of fraudulently entering a merger agreement with Rent-A-Wreck of America in October, 2005, according to court records.
The jury found the defendant responsible for one count of breach of contract and one count of deceit. SDCR was ordered to pay Rent-A-Wreck a total of $750,000 in punitive damages.
The jury concluded that Gruber misrepresented himself and SDCR with the intent to deceive and induce Rent-A-Wreck to enter into the merger agreement, according to court documents.
