Rental Agency Employees Struggle With Robbery Suspects
Car rental employees at Salt Lake International Airport struggled with five suspects in a $500,000 jewelry robbery. No one was seriously injured in the incident.
Rental car agency employees briefly struggled with several suspects in a $500,000 jewelry robbery that took place Sept. 16 at Salt Lake International Airport, according to the Salt Lake City Tribune. No one was seriously injured in the incident.
An airport spokesperson said two male airline passengers were approached by a Nissan Altima and a Toyota Camry as the passengers were dropping off a rental car. At knifepoint, five suspects then robbed the passengers of a case containing the jewelry.
Nearby rental car agency employees ran to the scene and briefly struggled with the suspects before the suspect sped away, exiting the airport going the wrong way and barely missing oncoming cars at the facility's entrance.
In addition to the Nissan and Toyota, police also are trying to locate a beige mini-van possibly involved in the robbery.
Although no serious injuries occurred, one of the victims suffered a scraped wrist during a struggle with the suspects.
The airport spokesperson said the suspects had obtained inside information and must have known the victims' travel plans, when they planned to arrive at the airport, and other details.
