Rental Car Companies in Abu Dhabi Face Old Parking Fines
The parking authority issued fines dating back more than two years.
According to The National, the Abu Dhabi parking authority at the Department of Transport is expecting several car rental companies in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, to pay parking and traffic fines on their vehicles from more than two years ago by the end of this year.
General managers at several car rental companies including Dollar Rent A Car and Progress Rent A Car explained the biggest issue is that it is too late to charge fines to the customers.
Most customers have canceled their credit cards, changed details or left the country after renting a car. Some operators are calling customers to ask permission if they can charge their credit card, and that some have responded positively.
The fines, though, outweigh the total amount of profit many rental companies make per month, making it difficult to pay them back quickly. One car rental company, Thrifty, received fines totaling more than $25,501, according to The National. Some companies have asked for a pardon but the parking authority is not offering any concessions.
