Samoa RACs Waiting to Convert to Right-Hand-Drive Fleets
The country will convert to driving on the left-hand side of the road next year, but RACs there are taking a wait-and-see attitude on when to convert their fleets to right-hand-drive vehicles.
Rental car companies in Samoa are taking a wait-and-see attitude on when to convert their fleets to right-hand-drive vehicles, Radio New Zealand International reports.
The country will convert to driving on the left-hand side of roads next year, a controversial move that’s met with considerable public resistance.
“We basically haven’t done anything to that effect as far as the association is concerned. We are still using our current fleets, as you can appreciate we’re still driving on the right hand side of the road using a left-hand vehicle. We won’t do anything until it gets pretty close to the date and see how that’s going to really have an impact on our business,” Roy Lee, president of the Samoa Car Association, told Radio New Zealand International.
Lee said many association members are worried for the safety of tourists visiting Samoa after the change goes into effect.
