When renting supercars, London-based Season Car Hire has introduced a "pay as you drive" promotion where customers are charged a reduced rate for a lower mileage allowance. If customers want additional mileage, they pay 6 pounds per additional mile.
"… Normally when hiring supercars, you have a mileage allowance of 100 miles per day,” says a Season Car Hire team member. “Often, our customers who hire these cars, especially in the London area, would use 50 miles a day and some would only use 25 miles. Taking this into consideration, we decided to have a lower start-up hire charge with a lower mileage allowance. And for customers who need more mileage, they would pay the additional mileage charge. This is why we called it ‘pay as you drive’ — the more you drive, the more you pay."
For the Ferrari 458 Spider, old rates equated to 1,200 pounds per day (inclusive of value added tax) and 100 miles allowance. But with “pay as you drive,” the rate is 600 pounds per day inclusive of 25 miles, with additional miles charged at 6 pounds per mile. So if a customer hired this car for a day and used 50 miles, he or she could save 400 pounds.
Some of the supercars available for "pay as you drive" include Aston Martin Rapide (330 pounds per day), Lamborghini LP560 (456 pounds per day), McLaren MP4 Spyder (600 pounds per day) and Mercedes SLS 63 AMG (342 pounds per day). These prices include 25 miles allowance and value added tax, says Season Car Hire.
