SFO Places ‘Hands-free’ Advisory Signs at RAC Counters
In an effort to increase awareness of distracted driving, San Francisco International Airport has placed signs at all its rental car counters, as well as entrances for pick up.
On Oct. 3 San Francisco International Airport (SFO) decided to be proactive in making sure people are aware of the dangers of distracted driving — as well as California law that has made texting while driving illegal and only allows “hands-free” cell phone operation. The airport has placed advisory signs at each car rental counter as well at entrances and exits of the rental pick-up areas.
According to SF Appeal, an online publication, these signs are only the start of efforts SFO is making in order to help curb distracted driving. The airport plans to mount permanent signs on the exit ramps of the garages and on the roadway of the rental car center.
California almost raised its fees for getting caught texting while driving or not operating the phone hands-free, but the state’s governor vetoed the bill. Currently, the fee is $20 for the first offense and $50 thereafter — though these figures tend to be more after taxes and other processing fees.
