Last Saturday, a Budget Rental Car employee was cleaning a returned car when a package found that was left from a customer led to a partial evacuation of the airport, according to ABC’s WABC Eyewitness News.
The Budget building and its parking lot, the nearby Dollar Rental Car building, a nearby area of the airport and the Air Train were all temporarily evacuated, as police inspected a “suspicious” package that turned out to be left from a salesman from iRobit, a company that develops robots to disarm bombs. The salesman, who is not named since he has not been charged with a crime, was planning to use the training device in a demonstration, but forgot it in the car.
The man boarded a flight to Boston and was promptly stopped by the federal agents upon arrival.
