Uber plans to launch its UberPool service in London on Friday Dec. 4, according to a report by the Telegraph. The new service allows passengers to share a ride with other passengers for a 25% discount.
This launch will likely cause more tension between Uber and the traditional taxi industry in London, which has been going on since Uber launched in 2012, according to the report.
And Uber is facing questions after Transport for London recently proposed new restrictions on minicab services, including “controls on ridesharing in public vehicles,” says the report.
Users can select the UberPool option on the Uber app when requesting a ride. When a driver picks you up, there may be another passenger already in the car. By sharing the ride with another user, the passengers pay less for the ride, according to the report.
UberPool has already launched in 15 cities, including San Francisco, Paris and New York.
