In Singapore, Wearnes Automotive will spend $100K to install video cameras in its rental car fleet of more than 300 cars, according to a report by The Straits Times. Wearnes expects to put a camera in each of its rental vehicles by April.
Adding front-facing cameras started early this year as a pilot due to accidents where the person at fault denies liability, according to the report.
“One of our main objectives is to protect our customers’ interests,” Carine Soh, Wearnes’ assistant general manager for leasing, told The Straits Times. “We have witnessed many accident cases involving reckless driving, as well as people changing their statements when at fault.”
