Wheeliz, a new startup in France, provides a peer-to-peer carsharing service for people who need wheelchair-adapted vehicles, according to a report by Tech Times.
Described as similar to Uber for people with disabilities, Wheeliz connects people with disabilities with owners of wheelchair-enabled vehicles.
Wheeliz also allows owners of wheelchair-adapted vehicle to rent out their vehicles, according to the report. Owners can list their cars for 50 to 60 euros per day. Wheeliz takes a 30% commission, but it also provides the vehicle owners with insurance, says the report.
Currently, Wheeliz operates in several cities in France, including Bordeaux and Paris, but is hoping to expand globally in the future. It has 120 cars listed and about 900 registered users, according to the report.
“When you know how hard it is to move when you are in a wheelchair, I really believe you are ready to help and do your best to let the user use your own car so [they] can be free to travel,” De Vilmorin, co-founder of Wheeliz, told Tech Times.
