Women-Only Ride-Hailing App Launches in Toronto Despite Criticism
Before the launch, DriveHer's creator had to be represented by a human rights lawyer to convince city officials the app isn't discriminatory.

A women-only ridesharing service in Toronto launched last month, aimed at making women feel safer when requesting rides, the CBC reports.
DriveHer, created by Aisha Addo, doesn’t allow male passengers or drivers, an aspect that some on social media have called “dividing” or “sexist.”
Before the launch, Addo was represented by a human rights lawyer to convince city officials the app isn’t discriminatory. Additionally, she says that critics need to look at the app from a safety, empowering, and empathetic perspective.
According to BC Local News, the app has already been downloaded 3,000 times and more than a hundred female drivers has signed up to drive.
