Wyoming’s Yellowstone Regional Airport is planning a $1.4 million renovation to its rental car facilities, according to a report by the Powell Tribune. And the airport is hoping that the state government will pay half the cost.
The upgrade will consolidate the airport’s car rental operations near the main terminal. The new quick turn-around facility would create faster service for customers, more convenience for the rental companies, and more revenue for the airport, according to the report.
The renovation would include a new overflow parking area, an automated car wash, prep bays for the vehicles, and gasoline pumps.
Commissioners voted to sign a letter of support for the project, according to the report. Airport leaders will be seeking a $700,000 grant from the State Loan and Investment Board. The other half of the cost would be paid for by the customer facility charge of $2.50 per car per day.
The airport offers Hertz, Dollar, Thrifty, Avis, and Budget brands. Currently, the rental companies drive off-site to refuel the vehicles.
