Zipcar Expands at Santa Cruz University
In order to meet a growing demand for car sharing at the University of California, Santa Cruz, Zipcar now has five locations and 10 vehicles on campus.
Zipcar has expanded at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) campus with a new location and new car, increasing its total to five locations and 10 cars, according to a report by the Santa Cruz Sentinel.
In order to decrease the number of vehicles on campus, UCSC’s partnership with Zipcar began in 2007. Since then, parking and traffic congestion has been relieved and the number of vehicle trips has been reduced by 6,000 per day, Larry Pageler, UCSC’s director of transportation and parking services, told the Sentinel.
Zipcar members pay a monthly fee to rent by the hour or day, which includes gas and insurance. Most Zipcar users are students who only rent cars when necessary, Pageler told the Sentinel.
